The young activist is seeking damages in the sum of N50 million. According to sources, Ojo-Lanre lodged the initial application on notification before a family court in the Ikeja High Court on October 27. As a worried Nigerian and the toddler’s legal friend, Ojo-Lanre is bringing legal action against the defendant.
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for president, is being sued by child rights activist Amb. Wale Ojo-Lanre for reportedly inviting an adolescent girl to his political gathering in Lagos. Sections 29 and 33 of the Lagos State Child Rights Act and Article 36 of the 1981 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child are violated by this.
The Labour Party, Queen (mother of the underage), the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami were additional respondents in the lawsuit with the filing number ID/6332GCM/2022 (SAN). The petitioner requests a N50 million damage compensation against the initial, second and third respondents for the minor girl’s child’s rights being violated.
He claims that the presidential participant’s use of the toddler’s photo and video as a banner kid on his Twitter account on October 2 was unethical, deceptive, unlawful, exploitative, and abusive. He claimed that on October 1, an adult political demonstration was held on a street in Lagos, and that the first defendant permitted a toddler to attend and be used in it.
We are requesting a court order compelling the initial and second respondents to remove their respective tweets and a number of other items about the minor girl-child from their social media accounts. N We also ask for a court order requiring the 4TH and 5th respondents to hand over the child’s custody to the 3rd respondent.
In order to provide the child with the proper care, education, protection, and upbringing until she turns eighteen years old, we are asking the court to grant us permission to place the child in any welfare home that is approved and supervised by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs or other relevant authorities.
Additionally, we ask that the 2nd respondent be disqualified from running for president in 2023 as a result of tolerating, adopting, promoting, and permitting the use of the young child for his protest.
Additionally, Ojo-Lanre asked the court to enjoin the first, second, and third defendants from uploading, disseminating, and publishing the toddler’s photograph.
He further argued that the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respondents should be detained and prosecuted for claimed abuse and gross violation of the toddler’s rights by the 4th and 5th respondents. The case’s hearing date has not yet been set in the meantime.
